Hey there! If you’ve come to this page looking for some more info about our Sowing Seeds project and how you can get involved or you’ve just received a jar and want to get started growing your sprouts, then you are in the right place!!
About Sowing Seeds
During these challenging and uncertain times, it’s so important that we all support one another to get through this together. Sowing Seeds is all about showing those having a particularly tough time during lockdown that they are not alone and that people care. It’s about bridging the gaps that divide us and extending a hand of friendship.
We do this by sending out sprouting jars (a garden on the windowsill) filled with seeds, goodies and messages of encouragement from us and from anyone who wants to send one. We work with community projects that we have connections with thanks to our Round The UK On A Tenner A Day journey to provide us with names and addresses and we have a Go Fund Me page where anyone can sponsor a jar (or half a jar or twenty jars).
You can also send us your messages/poems/drawings to put in the jars via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or in the post. Our address is Wapsbourne Manor, Sheffield Park, Near Uckfield, East Sussex, TN22 3QT
This is a sneak peek of what some the jars look like!
Watch here as Irys shares her passion for sprouting and talks you through all the steps. We hope you love it as much as we do! Please send us your photos of you growing/eating your sprouts and let us know what recipe ideas you come up with 😊
IMPORTANT: Your sprouts must be rinsed two to three times daily and placed out of direct sunlight to avoid harmful bacteria growing.
Also, be sure to give your jars a good wash out once you’ve harvested your sprouts and before you start growing another load.
